The truth about working at McDonald's
Myth
Truth
"You can't get ahead working at McDonald's."
McDonald's means opportunity. Many of our hourly employees have advanced to become restaurant managers, Owner/Operators, regional or divisional staff members, and corporate employees. In fact, 67,000 restaurant managers and assistant managers and 1,200 Owner/Operators started as crew.
"McDonald's doesn't provide the training people need to advance professionally."
At McDonald's, we've trained one out of every 12 working Americans. McDonald's work experience teaches skills and values that last a lifetime. Employees gain skills that are required in many professional positions, including teamwork, customer service and leadership. As employees excel at McDonald's, they learn how to supervise others, communicate effectively, and manage finances.
"McDonald's jobs aren't flexible."
McDonald's works with our employees to develop schedules to fit your needs. The company is committed to responsible student employment, enabling employees to participate in extra-curricular activities and complete their studies while maintaining part-time jobs. In addition, working parents can choose from various shifts to fit their busy schedules. Senior employees may also request to work shift they enjoy most.
"McDonald's doesn't offer customers a variety of choices to support their well-being."
McDonald's was the first to provide nutrition information to customers, and has been providing it for over 30 years. McDonald's has more menu choice and variety than ever before. We serve premium salads, chicken, yogurt, bottled water, fruit and many meal combinations that fit into a balanced diet. A McDonald's hamburger has 260 calories and 1.6 ounces of 100% beef; it is the same size it was in 1955. Nutrition information is listed on much of our packaging, on our Website and on tray liners.
"McDonald's doesn't offer customers high quality menu items."
McDonald's has an unrivaled, global track record on food quality and safety that extends from farms to our front counters. We serve 100% beef, chicken, Grade A eggs, fruit, vegetables and milk. We use the same trusted brands consumers purchase at the grocery store - Dannon, Kraft, Nestle, Tyson, Dasani, Newman's Own and many more. More than 1,000 safety, quality and inspection checks surround McDonald's food as it moves from the farms to our restaurants. 72 safety protocols are conducted every single day in McDonald's restaurants. Suppliers must follow long-standing, rigorous policies that meet or exceed government regulations.
"McDonald's doesn't pay special attention to its employees."
McDonald's People Promise, "We value you, your growth and your contributions," isn't just lip service. It's something the company lives by developing rewards and recognition programs for performance and achievement. From the Ray Kroc Awards for managers to the continuous review and enhancement of its compensation and benefits packages, McDonald's cares about our employees. McDonald's invests more than $1 billion annually in training.
